Leadership & Contribution

Learning that what you bring matters

As tamariki | children grow through our kura | school, they are given increasing opportunities to take responsibility, make decisions and contribute their own strengths and ideas to school life.

Leadership can look different for every child. It might mean taking on a formal leadership role, supporting younger children, caring for our environment, sharing a skill or taking responsibility for something that matters to the people and place around them.

Tamariki Rangatira | Our Student Leaders

Our tamariki rangatira | student leaders take real responsibility within the life of our kura | school. Leadership roles span different areas of school life, giving children opportunities to contribute through their own strengths and interests.

From sport, culture and the arts to environmental action, service, ICT, tuakana teina | older younger relationships and house leadership, our student leaders help shape and support the school they are part of.

Student Office Duty

Student office duty gives tamariki | children an opportunity to take on real responsibility and develop skills that build confidence, communication and independence. Students help with a range of tasks, including answering the school phone.

It is a simple but meaningful way for children to practise communicating with adults, thinking on their feet, taking responsibility and developing the confidence to step into unfamiliar situations.

Tuakana Teina | Older Younger Relationships

Tuakana teina | older younger relationships create opportunities for tamariki | children to learn alongside and from one another.

Sometimes this means older children supporting and encouraging younger children, building confidence, empathy and a sense of responsibility along the way. But tuakana teina can also be about knowledge and experience rather than age. A child might be the expert in one area, with a kaiako | teacher or another child taking the role of teina | learner.

These relationships create opportunities for everyone to share what they know, learn from others and recognise that everyone has something to contribute.

Financial Literacy & Summer Market

Financial literacy gives tamariki | children opportunities to develop an understanding of money, decision making and enterprise through practical experiences such as the Summer Market.

Rather than learning these ideas only in theory, children can put them into practice through a real experience, developing skills in planning, problem solving, collaboration and financial decision making.
